Question from someone on their own Keto Journey.

A friend posted the other day and said that she had a setback on her keto diet. I have included the message in its entirety below. I’ve also answered the question to the beat of my ability below that.

I hope that this answer helped her, and I also hope that if you are experiencing a setback it will help inspire you also.

Enjoy.

How can I get back into ketosis after a setback?

Jerry and Toni,

I have been doing keto for about a month now, I haven’t been weighing myself, but I was just starting to feel the ketosis and felt more energetic.

But I had to attend a company picnic yesterday and was only allowing myself one margarita (after not eating carbs all day) and I was going to eat whatever meat option they had available. But the food selection wasn’t as diverse as expected so I just didn’t really eat. Then, my boss of all people, peer pressured me into having another super sugary margarita.

So today I’m a little defeated, because I was just starting to get into a groove with the ketosis, and now I feel like I’m back at square one. Are there any tips to get into ketosis faster?

(Our response)

Hey *&^%$#$$,

You are going to be fine, If you knocked yourself out of ketosis, it is only temporary.

The MOST important thing is to NOT feel defeated!

Just do your thing!

You got yourself into ketosis and lost weight before, you can do it again!

Obviously, don’t keep cheating, but don’t get down on yourself because it happened once.

Some people try intermittent fasting to quickly get back into ketosis, but not everyone can, or wants to fast. You can also use exogenous ketones to help you get back into ketosis faster.

If those options don’t appeal to you, just do the things you were doing when it worked the first time, and don’t get on the scales for at least a week (water weight will come back, and if you’re anything like us seeing the scales go up is a huge moral loss!).

I hope this helps and thank you for reaching out to us. If we can help in any other way, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Good luck on your journey!

Best,

Jerry & Toni
